Beruflicher Werdegang
Hans-Günter Meier studied Electrical Engineering with focus on Communication Engineering at the Fachhochschule Aachen (Abt. Jülich) as well as mathematics at the RWTH Aachen (Aachen University of Technology, Germany).
He received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in 1980 and the Dipl.-Math. degree in 1986. From 1986 to 1991 he examined the dynamical behavior of complex Newton systems at the RWTH Aachen (Lehrstuhl C für Mathematik) where he received his Ph.D. in mathematics in 1991. Fascinated by the topic of automatic speech recognition he moved to PhilipsLaboratories in Aachen, focusing his research interests on statistical language modeling.
Between 1994 and August 1996 he was responsible for the concern research project 'TAT' addressing the problem of continuous speech recognition for dictation. In 1996 he received a call to a professorship in mathematics within the department of Electrical Engineering at the Fachhochschule Düsseldorf (University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf ) , where he is actually trying to spread out the fascination of the powerful beauty of mathematics.
