Experience Negotiations in Practice – This Is How University Teaching Should Be!

As part of the elective module “Negotiation Management: Strategies and Techniques” at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, we were pleased to welcome three experienced key account managers from Renesas Electronics – two joined us on-site, while one participated digitally from Munich.

Our students engaged in a hands-on negotiation simulation:

  • One team represented the customer
  • Another acted as the key account manager
  • A third team took on the role of the pricing department

Thanks to the intensive exchange and outstanding mentoring by Uwe Westmeyer, Mike Werner, and Johannes Dandl, participants gained valuable insights and received tailored feedback on their performance.

A heartfelt thank-you to Renesas Electronics for this enriching opportunity – this is exactly what modern university teaching should look like: practical, interactive, and collaborative.

Special thanks also to our committed student team members for their exceptional dedication and curiosity.

We look forward to continuing this valuable collaboration!

We want to extend our deepest gratitude for the incredible insights and impactful training session to our cooperation partner Texas Instruments, that recently delivered to the students at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences in our course on "Negotiation Management: Strategies and Techniques"

Negotiation Training – Practical and Powerful!

Engaging in a real negotiation with experienced industry professionals over real-life offers and contracts.

"Having the chance to gain this kind of experience was incredibly valuable for me and especially for my future career path!" says Julia Habelmann, a student at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. As a future industrial engineer, she already knows where she wants to go professionally: into project business within an industrial corporation. She has already acquired and applied a large part of the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies during her studies.

"But how to actually perform in a negotiation, what content is expected, which arguments are brought forward, what to prepare for, how the team can succeed together – and above all, which mistakes can happen – you only find that out when you really experience it for yourself," explains Niklas Fuhrmann, also an industrial engineering student at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and participant in the module "Market Psychology and Negotiation Management."

Leon Kleinschmidt highlights another special aspect of the session: “What made this negotiation situation particularly interesting was seeing how roles, perspectives, and conversations shift when part of the team joins the negotiation digitally. It’s not just about having the right technical setup – effective communication and the integration of the 'virtual' participants are absolutely essential.”

“We would like to thank the experts Max Pirkl and Maurice Andres from Siemens Energy for this outstanding session. It was incredibly insightful and a lot of fun.”

Interactive, interdisciplinary, and above all collaborative formats with industry partners are highly valuable – and, from the perspective of Frau Prof. Kati Lang, an essential component of academic education for industrial engineers with a focus on sales. “This is only possible thanks to the extraordinary commitment of industry representatives and the opportunities provided by a university. Many thanks to all those who help make it happen!”
